Here are some of my recent projects.  It seems I have been bitten by the knitting bug.  I first learned to knit right after I started crocheting about 8 years ago, but I totally hated it.  It's so much slower than crocheting, but I suppose I have come to appreciate what you can do with knitting that you can't crochet.  Also, I think I got too good at crocheting.  I like the sense of accomplishment after learning a new skill, and now I have lots to learn with knitting.  At my current rate I'll be knitting up a sweater in no time.

First we have this knitted bow/ascot scarf.  I loved this one...it's soft and fluffy, and super quick to make.  It only took a few hours, and you can get 2 from one skein of yarn.  Obviously way cheaper than the Anthropologie version that inspired it.

Then we have this fun rainbow scarf.  I was so glad to get rid of this poor ribbon yarn that has been made into about a million different things that I was never totally happy with.

I love this fluffy purple scarf.  It is super long (folded in half in photo), and has a great squishy texture to it.

I kinda love this knitted beanie...self-striping yarn is kinda the greatest thing ever.

This scarf was crocheted.  It looks really cool, and it will be a great pop of color dearing the dreary winter.

Finally, there is this crochet lace scarf.  This is my favorite quick pattern.  It's nice and girly and ruffly.

Procrastination and Rationalization

So, I desperately need to be studying for my International Relations midterm tomorrow, but I seem to have hit the point where I just keep reading the same page over and over again and not remembering any of it.  I suppose I am just excited to go home tomorrow afternoon, and about all the good things that will be waiting for me at home...cuddling with my kitty, watching the Yankees/Twins playoffs with my little brother, going to see the Chihuly glass at Cheekwood and thrifting with my mom.

Speaking of thrifting...I have had some good luck recently.

First, I found this awesome vintage Walt Disney World tray at Goodwill.  Anyone that knows me could tell you that Disney World is my absolute favorite place on Earth, and that I'm nuts for all things Disney!

Two weekends ago I hit up my favorite vintage/antique mall in Knoxville called Nostalgia.  One booth had a lot of vintage sewing notions.  I picked out these great buttons, and a grab bag that was filled with all sorts of different vintage lace.  It was such a good deal at 5 bucks...there's at least a couple of yards of each, and a couple had about 15 yards.  There were two other bags, but I had to be strong and limit myself to just one.

I also got this Beatles Record.  It is in great shape, and has been a nice addition to my collection.

Finally, I got a bag of yarn at Goodwill.  It was 5 dollars, and I couldn't exactly tell how much was in it, but it looked like a lot, so I decided to go for it.  There ended up being 10 skeins, so at 50 cents a piece, that isn't a bad deal.

However, I have a confession to make.  In the week following that purchase, I have accumulated an aditional 32 skeins of yarn.  Yes, you read that right...in the past week I have bought 42 skeins of yarn! 42!  Now before you judge me, you should know that I plan on using most of it to make Christmas gifts and things to start my Etsy shop ( which should be live by the end of the month), and the average price per skein only ends up being about $1.67.  So really, it was actually a very good deal, and since I'm making on average 3 scarfs a week now my stash needed to be replenished.  Yes, I am totally trying to rationalize these purchases, but the truth of the matter is, I'm just addicted to all things yarn.  Like I said before, don't judge me.

I suppose it's time to get back to that riveting International Relations reading I've been avoiding...

Hi

Hey everyone, I'm Liz, and I'd like to welcome you to my new blog Kitschy-Kitty. You can probably gather from the name that I love slightly-tacky vintage, and cats. You can expect to see lots of my crafts and tutorials, my latest thrift store finds, pictures of my kitty, inspiring things, and day-to-day musings about life as a college student here.

I should warn you that I am a bit of a craft harlot.  My passion is crochet, but recently I have been taken with that other yarn craft...knitting.  When I'm not messing with yarn, I dabble with, oh, just about any craft...embroidery, sewing, jewelry-making, scrapbooking, and so on.  I am completely self-taught, and I love a new challenge.

In addition to crafts, I love hunting for good deals and vintage treasures.  You never know what you're going to find, so it's always a new adventure. I get especially excited when I find good vinyl records, anything vintage disney, and items with cute kitties on them.

If the above interests you, I really hope you will stick around.  I'm excited to try and grow this blog into something fun and inspiring for you all!

~Liz~

P.S. Leave me comments or a link to your blog so I can check it out.  Also sign up to follow me over on the left. Thanks!
